ORBS

"Cold hearted orb that rules the night,
Removes the colours from our sight
Red is grey and yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an Illusion?"

"The Moody Blues"

Landscapes

From the age of four, I would accompany my mother, a landscape painter,   to the countryside. She would paint in oils, I would draw in crayons. It was a natural that I would end up in Art School….it was a Given that my favorite subject would be landscape.reveille.jpg

I learned from my mother all about watercolors and oil paints; what to look for when purchasing materials and she  shared  the tricks that she had learned;  "paint what you see, not what you know". Her favorite was "a color is not a color until you place it next to another color". But at art school I was taught how to see differently.

My mother saw tree, rock, cloud…. I now saw form, shape ,space…She saw how to draw that tree…I learned that objects are ready to be distorted.

I look at landscapes, as paintings of magical places to visit. I love to elaborate on nature and turn the shadows and reflections of the objects in the landscapes into the main subject

REFRACTED IMAGES

A brilliant crimson path shot across the floor cimg1557.jpgas I entered the room, it came from from a collection of colorful plastic boxes holding thumbtacks and such on the windowsill of my studio. Thus began my obsession with painting cubes and their refracted colors.

I began to photograph them from all angles and observed how quickly the reflections transformed as the sun shifted.

CAPTURE EACH MOMENT

It will never again exist
The sun will not repeat it’s angle Nor the wind it’s force The spirit will not be the same Nor will your state of mind see it that way again.

WATER MUSIC

These paintings are about Catching
a chord in midair ... Before new notes drown It OUT
by_the_pavillion.jpg

I began to study water reflections while
accompanying my husband fishing.
He would be busy baiting his line and
casting For fish…..I would be mesmerized
by the way my pole reflected In the water.

I was fascinated by how the dock and boats would transform on the waters surface…….
It reminded me of Socrate’s ‘Parable of the Cave’
We interpret the shadows dancing on the walls of our caves made by the images outside as representing their true reality.

To me those distorted reflections become like the sounds in music…..they exist but for a moment.

I began to capture these moments with my camera and enlarge the images with paints on canvas in my studio.
I turn a 4”x6” photo into a 4 ft. x 6 ft canvas.

At present the largest image is a double triptych measuring 11 ft wide x 8 ft tall
My ambition is to paint my water music images to encompass the walls of an entire room.
